Continue sailing north and the main stop is Trondheim, a city on the Trondheim Fjord, in central Norway. Dating back to the 11th century, the Gothic Nidaros Cathedral features an ornate rose window and a detailed west facade. Nearby, the Archbishop’s Palace Museum houses archaeological findings and sculptures, including gargoyles, removed from the cathedral.
We - three couples with walking difficulties — called a big cab to the city center (the ship excision desk called the day before to make the arrangements, and the cab fare was about us$80 round trip). It was Sunday and the cathedral was closed to the public because there was mass service.
Also all the shops were closed on Sunday. When we got there, it started drizzling. We walked to a bridge called Gamle Bybro, a historic bridge featuring red portals & scenic views of the river & quaint, colorful houses.
Then we walked back to the city center. There were a brewery festival in the previous 2-3 days. The entire street was lined up with big tents. People and machines were there to take down the tents, tables and signs. Daddy got two free beer glasses from the people there and he was very happy. I found a MacDonald with free restroom and a dry and warm place to sit down to rest my feet — and I was happy. The taxi driver came back at the time we set up to take us back to the ship. It was a relaxed walk despite the bad weather.
At dinner, our tour guide Chris set up a system to assign rotation seats. She cut a picture into a 3x2 squares representing the six seats on three tables next to each other. Each one draw a puzzle piece and your seat is determined based on the table group written at the back of the paper and the picture of the piece. Philip and I happened to seat next to each other. The lady to my right, the youngest in our group, was a nurse and is now working as insurance referral agent. The polish lady on her opposite side is a cardiology nurse from Florida and the Vietnamese lady on my opposite side was an orthopedic nurse from Virginia. It is so funny I happened to be surrounded by three nurses!
After dinner, Our travel guide played a trivia question game with us. She divided 26 people into four groups, put up 30 trivia questions about Norway and world famous places and the group that got the most correct answers won. The questions were easy except for some facts and history about Norway. We all had a good time to mingle with each other.
