We joined a Gate-1 tour for a 12-day Norway Fjords and Mountains. It started from Oslo, then took a train ride to Bergen, followed with a 6 day coastal cruise operated by Hurtigruten. The cruise sailed north bound along the Norwegian coastal line, visiting 33 ports and ended at Kirkens. We then flew back to Oslo and back home via Copenhagen.
8/3 - We took SAS business class from SFO, enroute Copenhagen to Oslo.
8/4 - Arrived at Oslo Hotel Bristol at 6pm. Our tour guide was Chris Rogers, an Irish lady who immigrated to Norway 25 years ago. We had an orientation and welcome gathering at the hotel lobby with Champaign. There are 26 people in the group, all from USA. Five Asian couples, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indian, plus us. Many of them have taken Gate-1 tours 10 or more times.
Dinner at the hotel. The first course was a very light potato soup with a poached egg in the middle that is decorated with watercress and some nutty crunch. The main dish was stuffed chicken breast roll in mushroom sauce. The texture of the meat was very strange — it did not taste like chicken at all.
